TONI & GUY PORT MELBOURNE

Set in a heritage listed brick warehouse, Toni & Guy synthesises the operational needs of the iconic hairdresser in a compact yet immersive salon proposition. The design embraces an enduring palette of black steel and American oak, crafting a timeless elegance, awash with natural light.

The design rationalises the salon experience into three distinct, experiential zones; the cutting floor, the colour salon and the washroom. Upon entry, the cutting floor embraces a minimal, gallery-style feel, with each station defined by bespoke, steel-framed framed units that carefully conceal hairdressing equipment and power supply.

Making use of the building’s height, the colour salon is set on a cantilevering mezzanine that offers a dedicated space to unwind during colour processing. Below, a timber-clad washroom creates separation from the bustling salon; a place of relaxation and reprieve. Throughout, existing concrete floors, structural steel framing and heritage roof trusses are thoughtfully retained, creating a purposeful, visual contrast between the old site and the salon’s new interventions.
