ALBERT PARK RESIDENCE
Nestled among a row of Victorian terraces, Albert Park Residence balances luxury with restraint. The addition’s angular footprint negotiates complex boundary conditions while framing views to the garden. Inside, carefully considered forms and high-quality materials bridge old and new, giving generosity to the narrow home.
The characterful front rooms are respectfully preserved. A level change marks the transition to new minimalist, light-filled living spaces. The compact, bar-like kitchen features dark timber veneer, damatsas stone, and smoked mirror. These materials create a recessive feel and add an illusion of depth. Beyond, a low damatsas plinth runs the length of the living area. Fine aged brass highlights a curated display of the clients’ treasured art and objects.
Skylights illuminate the terrace’s single-loaded hallway. Meanwhile, a dramatic central void floods the stairwell with natural light. Upstairs, a generous master suite and office provide a private retreat. A mirrored ensuite ‘box’ enhances the sense of volume while reflecting light throughout the space.
This Albert Park terrace renovation demonstrates how contemporary design can respect historic character. By combining light-filled interiors, sophisticated materiality, and art-focused living, the home balances elegance, functionality, and comfort.
