CHAMBERS RESIDENCE
Chambers Residence is the complete reinvention of a 20-year-old South Yarra penthouse, originally designed as three separate apartments. A jigsaw-puzzle challenge that our studio embraced as an opportunity for creativity and nuance, the space exemplifies new beginnings while enhancing existing aspects for a seamless architectural language and vision for living.
An extensive and much-loved art collection became the foundation for the architectural response. Gallery-like zones and curated pockets of space have been carved out to frame individual artworks, while long, minimal corridors allow for prominent sculptural display. These new spatial compositions create an intentional north–south connection that did not previously exist, enhancing circulation and the experience of traversing art throughout the home.
Materiality plays a central role in establishing the interior mood. Deep green marble brushed stainless-steel wall panels, russet tones, and expressive timbers provide rich textural backdrops for the diverse art collection. The kitchen’s stainless-steel linings bounce gentle reflections across the space, contrasted by the warmth of timber floors laid in a refined herringbone pattern. Throughout, a curated selection of vintage furniture pieces complements the home’s layered palette and sculptural elements.
Chambers Residence stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful reinvention- a union of art, architecture and atmosphere, crafted for longevity and daily delight. A home that intimately understands the lifestyle and passions of its residents while responding to their functional and aesthetic needs in equal measure.
