Esplanade Residence takes its cues from a classic car collection, shaping a contemporary home where the cars are present deep within the interior. The renovation works within the existing footprint, reshaping the plan for clarity across three levels, each opening to sweeping views of Melbourne’s coastline. At its centre, a former triangular void, originally built around a tree that’s no longer there, now holds new living spaces, reconnecting a plan that had grown fragmented. The change introduces perpendicular geometries that frame long views through and between rooms.

A warm, neutral palette references the bayside setting, albeit in an unexpected way. European oak Dinesen boards pair with smoke blue cabinetry, while oil-rubbed bronze, polished plaster and white marble layer contrast and texture. Crafted details run throughout, such as stone kickboards, integrated joinery pulls and timber-edged mirrors. Reeded glass softens certain outlooks while guiding the eye to framed views of the bay. Furniture, art and décor gather from design classics and local makers, soft neutrals and deep inky blues settling into sculpted settings against clean architectural lines. Part gallery and part home, Esplanade Residence holds the car collection and the coastline in the same measured frame.
